“The Last Wish”|A Heartwarming Drama Performance by Primary Students

The Last Wish

This Friday afternoon, the Primary School students at Dipont KCS Chengdu presented an original English-language play, The Last Wish, marking the beginning of a series of exciting student-led activities in June.

Written by Eric Yan, a primary student, and co-directed with Drama teacher Kinney, the play was a true student-led project. From scriptwriting and character design to rehearsal planning and performance, Eric led the entire process—showcasing not only his creativity and language ability, but also leadership and teamwork.

On Stage

On stage, students impressed with fluent English dialogue, expressive performances, and confident stage presence. Off stage, the project reflected the school’s commitment to whole-child development and experiential learning.

Theatre helps children develop not just language skills, but also focus, empathy and imagination,” said Kinney. “Through this project, they grew more confident, more collaborative, and more engaged.”

Bridge of Understanding

That afternoon, many parents gathered in the theatre to watch the performance. Seeing their children express emotions fluently in English and bring imagination to life on stage moved and surprised many of them. The drama stage became more than just a platform for self-expression—it became a bridge of mutual understanding and support between school and home.

At the end of the show, Drama teacher Kinney gave a closing speech. “Drama is more than just a performance,” he shared. “It’s a way for children to understand others and the world. Through rehearsing their roles, they’re also rehearsing how to think, feel, and grow.” His words brought the day’s event to a thoughtful and inspiring close.
